Alex practices principally in criminal law, where he has a wide-ranging practice in all manner of criminal offences, particularly serious indictable crime.
Alex’s trial experience includes homicides, slavery and people trafficking, serious driving offences, large-scale drug trafficking and importation, and high-value fraud and deception matters.
Since being called to the bar, Alex has regularly appeared in a variety of criminal hearings, including:
- Appeals to the Court of Appeal;
- Trials and pleas of guilty in the Supreme and County Courts;
- Mental Impairment and Fitness to be Tried matters in the County and Supreme Courts; and
- Bail applications, pleas, contested hearings and contested committal hearings in the Magistrates Court.
Outside the criminal jurisdiction, Alex also appears in disciplinary hearings professional and sporting/racing tribunals; as well as for respondents to civil proceedings under the Sentencing Act compensation applications. Alex also represents people called before coercive examinations (such as ACIC/ACC, OCE, and IBAC), and has extensive experience with the legislative regimes applicable to them.
Alex holds an Indictable Crime Certificate; and is on the VLA Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister List.
Alex is a member of the Criminal Bar Association committee.
