Biography

Christin accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law, including regulatory, administrative and public law matters. Christin also accepts briefs to appear in matters under the Serious Offenders Act 2018, and the Crimes Mental Impairment (Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.

He is an experienced advocate and since coming to the bar has appeared in County Court trials unled, committal hearings, contested hearings, plea hearings, appeals, bail applications, as well as appearing as junior counsel in Supreme Court trials and the Court of Appeal.

Immediately prior to coming to the Bar, Christin practised as a Senior Solicitor at the VGSO in the Police Branch. He advised on claims of public interest immunity, suppression orders and statutory prohibitions on disclosure in these matters.

Prior to his position at the VGSO, Christin worked as a Senior Lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid and gained experience in a broad range of indictable criminal matters, including sexual offences, drug matters and violent offences. As a solicitor advocate Christin regularly appeared in summary, indictable and appellate matters in the Magistrates’, Children’s and County Court jurisdictions.

Christin was a participant in Victoria Legal Aid’s Trial Counsel Development Program (2022/2023). Christin holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is a Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister.

Christin read with His Honour Judge Marcus Dempsey and Sarah Keating.
