Lachlan accepts briefs to appear and advise in criminal and quasi-criminal matters, including OH&S, inquests, disciplinary and tribunal proceedings. He is an experienced advocate, with particular expertise in indictable crime.
Lachlan represents clients in a wide range of hearings, including trials, pleas, appeals, contested summary hearings, committals and bail applications. He has appeared in trials in the County Court and as junior counsel in trials in the Supreme Court.
He appears in litigation involving serious criminal allegations, including proceedings involving homicide, dangerous driving, sexual offending, complex fraud, violent offending and drug trafficking.
Lachlan has significant experience in matters involving sexual offending, including matters involving historical sex offences and child and cognitively impaired complainants. He is skilled in navigating the complex procedural and evidentiary matters unique to such proceedings.
Lachlan’s previous work has included:
- A consultancy to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reviewing the Myanmar prosecution service;
- Positions researching human trafficking and regulation of sex work, both in Australia and overseas, at the University of Queensland and the University of British Columbia, Canada
- Volunteering at the Fitzroy Legal Service
- Teaching criminal law at the University of Queensland
Lachlan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) and Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) from the University of Queensland. He read with Megan Tittensor SC and Ray Gibson KC, and his senior mentor was Justice Lesley Taylor of the Victorian Court of Appeal.
