Biography

Lachlan is an experienced advocate specialising in criminal law, regulatory proceedings, inquests and inquiries.

He prepares rigorously, provides clear and pragmatic advice, and negotiates carefully – always focused on securing the best possible outcome for his clients.

Lachlan regularly appears in complex criminal matters, including allegations of homicide, sexual offences, family violence, white collar crime and drug trafficking.

His practice also spans coronial inquests, coercive hearings, and regulatory litigation. He frequently acts both for and against agencies including ASIC, WorkSafe, the EPA, Agriculture Victoria, and the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

Lachlan appears in trials led and unled, and has appeared as junior counsel in complex and serious indictable criminal matters including: R v Basham [2023] VSC 79; DPP v JA & Ors [2023] VSC 531; Wilio v The King [2023] VSCA 88; DPP v ZZ [2024] VSC 762; and Madafferi v The Queen [2021] 287 A Crim R 380.

Before coming to the Bar, Lachlan practised as a senior criminal solicitor, taught criminal law at the University of Queensland, consulted to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and conducted research on human trafficking and sex work regulation in Australia and overseas.

He studied at the University of Queensland and the University of British Columbia in Canada, read with Megan Tittensor SC, and his senior mentor was Justice Lesley Taylor of the Victorian Court of Appeal.

Lachlan accepts briefs across Victoria and interstate.
