Scott accepts briefs in all criminal and quasi-criminal matters.
Prior to coming to the bar, Scott was a lawyer at Balmer & Associates where he practiced exclusively in criminal defence. He appeared daily in the Magistrates’ Court and County Court in pleas, contested hearings, bail applications, committals, pre-trial applications, and appeals. He also appeared in the Supreme Court in bail applications.
Scott took carriage of a wide range of summary and indictable matters, both State and Commonwealth. These included serious violent and homicide offences, serious sexual offences, driving offences involving death, large-scale drug offences and commercial fraud. He instructed in trials, proceedings under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act and in appeals in the Court of Appeal. He also gained experience in coercive examinations at the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
More recently, Scott was a senior lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid. In that role he continued to develop his summary and indictable crime practice, taking carriage of complex matters involving serious violent and sexual offences. He also expanded his civil advocacy practice, appearing regularly in the Mental Health Tribunal in treatment order applications.
Scott is reading with Christopher Terry and his senior mentor is Dermot Dann KC.
