Sophie is an indigenous barrister who practices predominantly in criminal and quasi-criminal matters. Since being at the bar, Sophie has gained more experience in a range of criminal matters, as well as Worksafe prosecutions, Open Court’s Act proceedings and subpoena proceedings.
As junior counsel, she has appeared in criminal trials in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria. She is a current participant in Victoria Legal Aid’s Trial Development Program.
Sophie is an experienced advocate who specialises in indictable crime. She started her career as a criminal defence lawyer at Legal Aid New South Wales where she gained significant advocacy experience, appearing daily in the Children’s, Magistrates, District and Supreme Court in a range of matters.
Immediately prior to coming to the Bar, Sophie worked in the Trial Division of the Office of Public Prosecutions. She managed a high file load made up of complex criminal matters including homicide, culpable driving, serious violence, drugs, fraud and sexual offending.
Sophie sits on the Victorian Bar’s Indigenous Justice Committee.
